Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal said that Shakib al Hasan is the greatest cricketer of his country and added that he waiting to welcome when the ban ends.
Shakib has become one of the biggest names of recent years to be banned for corruption offences in the first step of a major investigation by the International Cricket Council.
Shakib pleaded guilty to three charges under the ICC’s anti-corruption code relating to the Bangladesh Premier League in 2017, the 2018 IPL and a tri-series that same year involving Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
Shakib has been banned for two years with one year of that sentence suspended after admitting the charges and accepting his suspension in lieu of a hearing.
‘’Anyone would want a caliber player like Shakib. Any captain will want him in the team. There is still a lot of time left. October is still far away,’’ said Tamim during a Facebook live with a leading English daily.
‘’When Shakib's ban will be over, then I am sure there will be no captain who will say I don't need him. I think he is the best cricketer and performer in Bangladesh. I am not disrespecting anyone. But in my eyes, Shakib is the best cricketer of all time in Bangladesh,’’ said Tamim.
