Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh said that he is not concerned with the form of Mashrafe bin Mortaza despite below-average performance in the ongoing World Cup.

Mashrafee picked up only one wicket in the tournament so far during 44 overs that he bowled in the six games that saw him leaking 279 runs with an economy 6.34.

Mashrafee’s performance dipped largely due to the hamstring injury that he sustained in the tri-nation in Ireland but despite everything his performance raised quite a few eyebrows that prompted the media to ask Walsh whether he is happy with his performance or not during a press conference in front of the team on Saturday.

Bangladesh have got two more group-phase games left in the tournament respectively against India and Pakistan and they have to beat both their opponents and see how it stands elsewhere if they want to progress to the semi-final  they need their inspirational skipper to lead from the front.

‘’Wickets are not the key thing and well he has not got enough wickets as we know,’ ’said Walsh.

‘’He [Mashrafee] is playing well and bowling good. I am sure the wickets will come. I am not really concerned about having wickets,’’ he said.

‘’ I am more concerned about keeping them tight and doing my job,’’ he said.

Though Mashrafee form is not concerning according to Walsh, statistics suggest something else. In 2017 Mustafizur was the most successful bowler with 11match 14wkts from 11 matches with an economy rate 5.48 while Mashrafee was second with 13 wickets from 13 matches with an economy of 5.75

In 2018 Mustafizur was the most successful bowler with 29 wickets from 18 matched with an economy of 4.20 while Mashrafee was behind him with 26 wickets from 20 matches with an economy of 4.91.

However, it is not the case in 2019 as though Mustafizur is leading in the bowling departments with 14 wickets from nine matches with an economy of 6.97 Mohammad Saifuddin is the second best bowler with 11 wickets from nine matches with 6.05 economy rate while Mashrafee is placed in the fourt position with eight wickets from `10 matches with an economy of 4.93.

Mashrafee performance in the World Cup came under scrutiny as well due to the fact that he is not delivering like the way he used to deliver before.

While he was behind Mustafizur Rahman in 2017 and 2018 it is not the case in 2019 as though Mustafizur is still leading the table with 20 wickets from 12 matches he is currently placed in the fifth spot.
