Shinepukur registered an upset by beating mighty Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League while Gazi Group comfortably outclassed Uttara Sporting. Result of the both games was decided through D/L method after rain intervened the proceeding of the matches. However victory in their respective matches kept Shinepukur and Gazi Group’s Super  League hopes alive.

Shinepukur Cricket Club vs Prime Bank

Shinepukur Cricket Club sprung a surprise, crushing mighty Prime Bank Cricket Club by 48 runs in the DPL as per D/L method at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Tuesday.

The victory proved to be significant for Shinepukur as it kept their hopes alive to seal the Super League spot. By virtue of the victory Shinepukur put them in seventh place, collecting seven points from eight games. Top six teams will move into the Super League.  Prime Bank however are in third place with 12 points from eight games.

Electing to bat first, Shinepukur piled up 245-8 and the revised target for Prime Bank was for 149 runs in 20  overs following a spell of shower. Prime Bank who crossed 300 runs mark four times in this league in their last seven games, struggled to get the rhythm and finally were restricted to 100-9 in 20 overs.

Opener Shadman Islam struck 94 ball-78, with six fours and one six to provide the impetus. He kept the side on track, despite Shinepukur were reeling to precarious 11-2. His 125-run with Towhid Ridoy for the third wicket stand proved to decisive in turning the game. Ridoy was the highest scorer with 83 off 117, hitting four fours and a six. Delwar claimed 3-16 while Sabbir Hossain bagged 2-11.

Gazi Group Cricketers vs Uttara Sporting Club

Off-spinner Sanjit Saha scalped 4-20 to help Gazi Group Cricketers’ Super League hopes alive in DPL as they recorded a 49-run win over Uttara Sporting Club by D/L method at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Put into bat first, Gazi Group Cricketers amassed 235-9 in 50 overs after which a spell shower forced to reduce the match. As per revised target through D/L method, Uttara were set to chase 188 in 33 overs but Sanjit left them in clueless state to wrap up their innings for 138 in 31 overs.

Shamsur Rahman was the highest scorer for Gazi Group with 51 while openers—Myshukur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan made identical 44 runs.

Myshukur and Mahedi shared 81-run for the opening stand to lay a solid platform, standing on which Shamsur looked set to take the side for a hefty total. However Shamsur’s dismissal triggered a collapse as Gazi Group lost last six wickets for 40 runs.

New ball bowler of Uttara Abdur Rashid wrecked havoc on Gazi, claiming 3-43. Asaduzzaman Payel, Asiful Emon and Sheikh Humayun grabbed two wickets apiece.

Asiful Emon also batted well, hitting 50 runs but his other colleagues couldn’t give him adequate support to make at least some resistance. Shakhir Hossain was the other notable scorer with 28.

The victory was Gazi Group’s third in the league, that put them in the seventh place for the time being. Top six teams will make the cut in the Super League phase. With three matches still left, Gazi could still hope to move into the Super League. Uttara however were in second to bottom with four points.
