An AB de Villiers century looked on the cards ever since he started playing BPL with the match against Sylhet Sixers at Sylhet in last week. But somehow it eluded as he hadn’t enough scope to go on berserk because of the others batsmen of his side Rangpur Riders, a team bolstered with several superstars of T20 cricket.

But finally when the opportunity came, he grabbed it with both hands. And the situation was ideal for Villiers who enjoyed counterattacking the bowlers when his team is in tricky situation. With his side reeling to five for two, it was a perfect platform for Villiers and he didn’t disappoint. By cutting through the bowlers in surgical fashion he brought up his maiden BPL century off just 50 balls, smashing eight fours and six sixes, with some improvised and unorthodox shots for which he is famous for.

But a down to the earth like man Villiers never put his century ahead of the team’s cause, which again resonated in his voice.

“Honestly, I don’t think 1 percent about centuries. It’s nothing to me,” said Villiers after his century, complemented by Ales Hales’ 85 not out just made a mockery with Dhaka’s big enough 186 total to eventually sail the side home with eight wickets victory.

“I try to finish the game for my team and that means a lot to me. I was able to guide my team to win today. That’s why I play the game. I honestly don’t know how many centuries I have. I don’t care. Never had, never will. Sorry to disappoint you,” he said with smile.

And he reiterated more than the century he loves to finish off the game by his own.

“The special thing is to finish the game. I batted in the middle order at most of the time in my career. If you see the stats, the middle order players don’t get that much of hundreds. I have to finish the game. That’s how I prepar myself to finish the game for my team and remain not out. I told Alex to get his century there today, it could be two in a row for him. He said No. He also does not care about century. We just played normal cricket out there. We did not want to get any new batsmen in the crease to feel the pressure. That’s what the plan was.”

“I just focus on my basics. When team is in trouble, I know I can play my part and save the team. I really enjoyed the situation. Even though, I was getting nervous and also scared of getting out early. I think we all feel like that as we are human being after all. Actually I did not think too much when I went to bat today. And when I don’t think too much it always becomes a good sign for me. My mind was nice and clear and I just trying to hit the ball and it allowing to me to take over.  And I am very proud of that knock.”
