Khulna Titans produced a surprise by not allowing inform left-arm spinner Taijul Islam to bowl in the innings of Comilla Victorians, a team which later posted 237 for five, the BPL history’s second largest total to crush the clueless Titans by 80 runs on Monday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

Given Taijul’s form it was a shocker to not introduce him in the attack, specially after his 12 wickets in the tournament so far at an economy rate of just over seven.

There was no official explanation about this but when asked, Carlos Brathwaite who represented the team in post-match conference couldn’t give any satisfactory reason.

“I can’t answer that question because I am not the captain. If you asked me any questions like who bowled why, who didn’t bowl and who didn’t bat, I can’t answer that because I am not the coach or captain. I respectfully declined that,” said Brathwaite.

However immediate after that reply he tried to justify the reason of not bowling him in the match.

‘Riyad bowled four overs and he bowled well. They have two left-handers in majority of their innings and right-handers played in little innings. Anamul got out in the first ball, Afridi played four and then Shamshur batting rest. So I can say why he didn’t bowl. So I can see why he didn’t bowl. Obviously the small boundaries and it’s very difficult in firm spinning to bowl at two left-handers.”

Khulna Titans were languishing at the bottom of the table with four points in 11 matches and had already been out the race. Their performance was shocker itself given the fact that they played play-off phase in the last two seasons with almost same squad.
