Chittagong Vikings showed an unwavering resolve in both batting and bowling to outclass mighty Dhaka Dynamites In a see-saw battle by three wickets in their sixth game of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Monday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Their bowlers paved the way for the victory by restricting Dhaka to 139 for nine. But Shakib Al Hasan obstructed Chittagong to make it one-way traffic, claiming four wickets for 16 with a wicket-maiden in crucial 17th over that left Chittagong a requirement of 26 runs off 18 balls, from 26 runs off 24 balls.
Chittagong’s South African recruit Robbie Frylick however lived up to his reputation of death over batting specialist to help the side finally gun down the target with one ball to spare with Chittagong finishing at 145 for seven.
With 16 runs requiring in the final over, Frylinck hit three sixes in that over to remain unbeaten on 25 off 10.
Chittagong made a good start in pursuit of moderate total. After claiming three for 25, Cameron Delport also shined in with willow, providing Chittagong an early blitz despite Andre Russell removed Mohammad Shahzad in the second ball of the innings.

The South African Delport struck 12 ball-30 before Shakib Al Hasan rattled his stump to give the side an important breakthrough.
Shakib then removed Yasir Ali (15) and big-hitter Dasun Shanaka (2) to show the side a glimmer of hope.
Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat resisted and seemed to sail the side without any fuss. However Mushfiqur’s rash shot caused his dismissal after he scored 22 off 23.
Mushfiqur’s wicket left the game in balance after which Dhaka made them firm favourite in the game on the back of some controlled bowling until Frylinck demolished them in last over thriller.
Shakib Al Hasan battled lonely in Dhaka’s innings earlier, making a run-a-ball-34 as the wickets were tumbling at regular interval.
Robbie Frylinck stifled Dhaka’s innings removing Rony Talukdar for naught and Sunil Narine, who was increasingly dangerous, for nine ball-18.
Shakib held one end firmly but Chittagong bowlers made regular intervals. Delport got the key wickets of Shakib and Nurul Hasan Sohan (27) to leave Dhaka 100 for six.
Abu Jayed Rahi complemented Delport, wrecking havoc on Dhaka’s lower middle order.
However Shuvagata Hom decided to unleash some unauthodox shots from his repertoire amid wickets tumbling. He blasted 15 ball-28 not out with three fours and one six to give the bowlers something to defend. But a spirited Chittagong showed a steely resolve to hand Dhaka the second defeat in their seven matches.
Despite the defeat Dhaka remained at the top by virtue of net run rate with both Dhaka and Chittagong acquiring 1o points from seven and six games respectively.
