Sylhet Sixers pace bowler Taskin Ahmed said that they are disappointed to lose the game against Rangpur Riders despite posting mammoth 194 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday.
Riders ended their Sylhet phase on a perfect note as they spoiled the farewell party of David Warner’s Sylhet Sixers as they defeated the host by four-wicket in a high-scoring thriller on Saturday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Taskin finished with four for 42 but it went vein finally as Riders rode on their luck to win the crucial game.
‘’It really feels bad to lose a match. We eagerly wanted to win the game, and we have tried also. The wicket was very good. We shouldn't have lost the match in spite of scoring 194 runs,’’ said Taskin.
‘’We have made some mistakes, we have dropped some catches, and we have bowled some cheap overs. Despite having four wickets in this match, I am not happy because we have lost it,’’ he said.
‘’I have bagged four wickets, it was fine, but at the end of the day, cricket is a team game. I am not happy because my team has lost the match,’’ he said.

‘’I don't know what should I say. I can't express my thoughts after losing the match in spite of scoring 194 runs. We were unlucky, and we have lost the match for some small mistakes. They have had some big names in their team, but we have taken some wickets as well. But, for some mistakes at the end of the game, we have lost it,’’ he added.
Taskin hinted that though it not a major concern he is carried some niggles against Riders.
‘’Here is a pain in my toe. I have strapped my leg before the match, but I have felt the pain in the last over I have bowled. I did not take any risk after ending my overs, and I walked out. It is not a big problem. We have four days before the next match, I think everything will be right,’’ he added.
Taskin added that there is no use putting all the blame of Mehedi Hasan Rana’s shoulder as the lanky pace bowler tried his best but the effort went in vai,
‘’He is a very good bowler (Mehedi Hasan Rana). it was just his second match in Bangladesh Premier League. He never faced this kind of situation in a competitive match. He was a little bit nervous. He executed wrongly. All the top local players play in BPL, and all the foreigners are also proven performer in the T20 cricket. I think he will learn from his mistakes, and he will do better in the future,’’ said Taskin added that the way Rilee Rossouw and AB de Villiers batted made their life difficult in the middle overs.
‘’Rilee Rossouw and AB de Villiers batted very well. Our captain has used our best powder during the middle overs. Due to their strong partnership, we have lost an over in the middle over what could have been used in the death overs,’’ he said.
Taskin added that they will have a mental barrier to cross after the departure of David Warner as he returned home after the match as his elbow injury flared up unexpectedly.
‘’It will create a deficit in our team when David Warner will go back. But it's ok, coaching staffs are always supporting local players. Jason Roy will join our team, and he will replace David Warner. I hope we will do better, and we are still in the tournament. We will obviously bounce back in the next matches. I believe will do something better,’’ said Taskin adding he owed a lot for his recent success to his head coach Waqar Younis.
'’He always helps us and motivates us. He is helping the pace bowlers to correct their grips, swing and variations. But true thing is it takes too much time to learn these. It's not possible to learn something new in the middle of a tournament. We are trying to take notes,’’ said Taskin.
Taskin added that they should have won the match for Sabbir Rahman as his stellar effort with bat also went in vain.
Sabbir was key in Sylhet’s gigantic total, smashing 51 ball-85, laced with five fours and six sixes. And this was the first significant score of him after the completion of his six-month ban following a poor off-field demeanor.
‘’Personally, I felt very bad after losing the match. If we had won the game, he would have been awarded man of the match. It hurt me a lot,’’ said Taskin.
‘’We should have won the game for him,’’ he concluded
