Comilla Victorians Shoaib Malik said on Wednesday that though it is not an excuse but the wicket played a big part in their nine-wicket loss to Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Victorians were bundled out for 63 runs despite having Tamim Iqbal, Steven Smith, Evin Lewis and Shoaib Malik in their batting line-up that only raised the question over the quality of the BPL surface.

The wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium had already earned quite a bit of a criticism for low scoring matches.

‘’Well, I think these are early games. Conditions are obviously tough for all the batsmen but I think Dhaka scored a lot runs but the game was a day game. As we all know due factor is there,’’ Malik told reporters at the academy premises on Wednesday.

‘’It changes especially when due comes in the pitch. I think these things happen in this particular format, T20. But whatever happened that happened. We can’t change that what’s comings. We are very positive and we have such great cricketers in our dressing room and I am sure they must have thought of what went wrong and what can be done in coming games,’’ he said.

‘’Well, that happens. We must have seen in all three formats that lot of strong batting lineups went out for 40 runs, 50 runs. So that happens in any cricket. But I would say that can be small but not criticizing. It’s good for the tournament if they can make good pitches they can be done not just we struggled we see Rangpur Riders, if you look at their batters’ strike-rate, while chasing 60 or 63 they were also struggling,’’ he said.

‘’I can say that there is small change they can do. I think the weather doesn’t allow curator to make good pitches. But if they tried to make good pitches there will be high scoring games that the crowd will be entertained and that’s what even the whole world will like to see,’’ he said.

‘Well, that’s not the case. Pitches are ok. It’s just that you can’t play your shots through your lines. And it’s difficult even if you play well in the pitches particularly in Dhaka, your skill of scoring 140 max 150 I think this small improvement can be possible in the pitches,’’ he concluded.
