BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin brushed aside any doubt regarding Shakib Al Hasan’s fitness as far as his participation in the upcoming Asia Cup is concerned.
Shakib’s fitness controversy erupted like a volcano on Thursday (September 6) after one of the leading newspapers in the country reportedly mentioned Shakib’s lack of fitness, which prompted the board to seek a clarification from the cricketer.
It was the most talked-about issue during the pre-Asia Cup press briefing of the team, before Shakib shed some light on the issue, saying his words had certainly been misinterpreted.

The chief selector confirmed that Shakib is fully fit to take part in the tournament and the physio-reports also do not suggest otherwise. He also informed that there is nothing wrong with the all-rounder’s current fitness status, to their knowledge.
Abedin said: “We’ve got no such report [regarding Shakib’s lack of fitness] from the physio. Whatever is being discussed outside is none of our concern. He is hundred percent fit, according to the physio; hence, there should be no problem.
“We have no further update on Shakib. It’s a much talked-about matter that he will undergo a surgery.
“We have no update from the doctor [on this matter]. As far as we know, he is enough fit to play. I hope he can play the entire tournament,”
Shakib played a few matches after taking painkiller injections during the later part of the limited-overs leg of Bangladesh’s West Indies tour. The 31-year-old wanted to undergo a reoperation on his longstanding finger injury following that tour, but later changed his decision upon discussion with the board. He might go under the knife when Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe for a fully fledged series.
