The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday honored the Bangladesh women's football team for their recent SAFF Women's Championship victory by presenting them with a cheque of Tk 20 lakh.
BCB president Faruque Ahmed handed over the cheque to team captain Sabina Khatun during a ceremony attended by BCB directors Nazmul Abedeen, Fahim Sinha, and team manager Mahmuda Akter.
After handing over the cheque, BCB President said, "As you know, we have become SAFF champions. In this context, cricket and football are not separate; together they make up sports. As Bangladeshis, we are immensely proud. What makes us even happier is that the women’s team has achieved this feat for the second consecutive time. This is not a fluke—the team has proven their capability once again. We are deeply grateful for how they have made us proud. I hope, under the leadership of the new president of the Football Federation, women’s football will progress even further."
Team captain Sabina Khatun expressed her gratitude to the BCB, saying, "First of all, I would like to thank all the esteemed directors of the Cricket Board, especially the Board President. Even after our SAFF Championship victory last time, the Cricket Board stood by us, and they have done so again this time. These gestures from the Cricket Board truly inspire us. It is a source of joy for us to see how we are motivated by support from all sectors."
Bangladesh clinched the regional title for the second consecutive time last month, defeating Nepal 2-1 in the final held in Kathmandu.
