Afif Hossain will once again feature for Khulna Tigers in the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), having been retained by the franchise ahead of the draft. However, before the BPL begins, Afif will wear the Rangpur Riders jersey to compete in the Global Super League.
Rangpur Riders, representing Bangladesh in the five-team tournament, have included Afif among their nine domestic players in the squad.
The team began their training for the tournament on Thursday at the Mirpur Academy Ground. Speaking to the media after Friday’s session, Afif expressed his gratitude to Rangpur Riders for giving him this opportunity.
"This is definitely a chance to shine. Rangpur Riders are providing us with such an opportunity, which doesn’t come often. I hope to perform well for the team," Afif said.
Afif believes performing in this tournament can open doors to other international competitions in the future.
"Tournaments like these are a great opportunity for everyone. Playing abroad is a big chance, and performing well here can lead to opportunities in other tournaments in the future," he added.
The Rangpur Riders squad will leave for Guyana on November 22 to participate in the Global Super League. Despite being a key player, Afif has yet to play for the national team this year, largely due to team combinations and form.
For now, Afif is focused on contributing to Rangpur’s success in the tournament. "I’m not thinking much about the national team at the moment. My goal is to help the team reach the final. I don’t have any personal targets; I’ll just try to give my best for the team," he concluded.
