India took command of the first Test against Bangladesh, extending their lead to 308 after fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah helped bundle out the visitors for 149 on Friday.

Bangladesh were dismissed in the final session with former skipper Shakib Al Hasan top-scoring on 32 in their reply to India's first-innings total of 376.

The hosts did not enforce the follow-on, deciding instead to build on their lead of 227.

India's bowlers delivered a solid performance, but Bangladesh's poor shot selection played a bigger role in determining the outcome of the match.

Tamim Iqbal, who is commentating on the match, expressed his disappointment with Bangladesh’s performance during a media briefing after the second day's play in the Chennai Test.

On the first day, the Tigers dominated the first two sessions, but India fought back strongly in the final session, thanks to the efforts of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who laid the foundation for India’s large total. Tamim had hoped Bangladesh would recover on the second day, but that did not happen.

"Bangladesh’s batting was undoubtedly disappointing. We all expected better, especially as the pitch didn’t change much from the first day. It’s frustrating, for sure. We wanted Bangladesh to at least come close to India’s total to make the game more exciting," Tamim said to reporters in Chennai.

Seventeen wickets fell on the second day, but Tamim did not blame the pitch for Bangladesh’s struggles. While acknowledging some good deliveries, the former Bangladesh captain pointed out the poor shot selection by the batters.

"I wouldn’t say the wicket was difficult. There were some excellent deliveries, but also some poor shot selection. It was a mixed performance. The new ball did offer some help, especially against someone like Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best in the world. But alongside those great deliveries, we played some bad shots as well."
