Bangladesh drop WTC points, ICC fines Shakib

Bangladesh and Pakistan both lost crucial World Test Championship points due to slow over rates during the first Test of their series. Pakistan and Bangladesh’s chances of reaching the ICC World Test Championship final took a hit after being penalized for slow over rates in the Rawalpindi Test.
Pakistan, the hosts, were found to be six overs short and lost six World Test Championship points, while Bangladesh, who secured a 10-wicket victory, were docked three points for being three overs short of the required rate.
As a result, Pakistan were fined 30% of their match fee, and Bangladesh were penalized 15%. Captains Shan Masood and Najmul Hossain Shanto accepted the charges, avoiding formal hearings.
The sanctions keep Pakistan in the eighth spot in the World Test Championship standings, while Bangladesh drops to seventh, falling behind South Africa. The teams are set to face each other again in the second Test in Rawalpindi starting Friday.
Additionally, Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10% of his match fee and received a demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct after throwing the ball at Rizwan in the 33rd over of the second innings when Rizwan backed away.
Shakib was penalised in accordance with Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
