Bangladesh's Sathira Jakir Jesy to officiate in Women's Asia Cup

For the first time, Bangladeshi umpire Sathira Jakir Jesy will officiate in the Women's Asia Cup, which set to take place in Sri Lanka from July 18 to 28. Jessie confirmed the news on her Facebook page on Saturday.

Expressing her excitement, Jessie wrote, “Alhumdulillah dream comes true, new mission Women’s Asia cup 2024 (Srilanka ).I am happy to announce that Bangladesh Cricket Board have selected me to officiate Women’s Asia Cup 2024 in Srilanka July 18 th to 28 th July.Everyone please keep me in your prayers.”

Earlier this year, in March, the Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed Jesy and Mishu Chowdhury as the country's first female umpires. Subsequently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) included five Bangladeshi women, including four female umpires—Sathira Jakir Jesy, Rokeya Sultana, Dolly Rani Sarkar, and Champa Chakma—in its umpiring development panel.

The Women's Asia Cup will kick off on July 19 in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, placed in Group B along with Malaysia and Thailand, will compete on the second day of the tournament. The continental event will run until July 28, with all 15 matches taking place in Dambulla.
