A recent report from a private television channel in Bangladesh claimed that Taskin Ahmed missed the important match against India in T20 World Cup due to oversleeping, leading to a flurry of criticism from fans.

With no official comment from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the true story remained unclear. However, Shakib Al Hasan has provided a detailed version of what transpired that day.

Taskin, who is the vice-captain of Bangladesh, couldn’t play that match because he failed to wake up on time, sparking widespread speculation. During the World Cup, Taskin had already apologized to the team for his mistake.

“The team bus leaves at a specific time, and as players, we have rules to follow. The bus never waits. If someone misses it, they usually take a separate car, the manager's vehicle, or a taxi. However, transportation was difficult in the West Indies. Taskin arrived at the ground about 5-10 minutes before the toss, very close to the start of the game. Naturally, it was hard for the selectors to include him in such a condition. Taskin apologized to the team, and everyone accepted it. Mistakes can happen to anyone, and he acknowledged his error, which concluded the matter.” Shakib said today at the airport before leaving to play Major League Cricket in USA.

When asked if the team could have waited for Taskin or about the role of the team management, Shakib explained “These things (waking someone up) don’t happen in cricket. The rules of cricket don’t allow for the whole team to wait for one player. The team never waits. This happens nowhere. Even in age-level cricket, I remember instances where players chased after the bus, but once the door closed, the bus left. The team never stops for one player.”
