Chattogram, Dhaka Metro register win in first round of NCL

The first round of the 25th National Cricket League (NCL) 2023-24 has ended with the victors Chattogram, Dhaka Metro, Dhaka, and Khulna. 

Chattogram vs Barishal

Chattogram emerged victorious against Barishal on Day 4 by 87 runs in the first round of the National Cricket League (NCL) 2023-24 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS), Chattogram.

Hasan Murad grabbed four wickets to settle down Barishal on 224 runs while chasing 312 runs. Sohag Gazi scored the highest 97 off 132 balls aided by 11 boundaries and three sixes for Barishal but it wasn’t enough for the side.

Earlier, Chattogram posted 238 in the first innings, in reply Barishal scored 235 runs.

Yasir Ali Chowdhury’s top-scoring knock of 74 runs, Shamim Hossain Patwary’s 67, and Nayeem Hasan’s 51 helped Chattogram to set 312 runs.

Barishal’s Kamrul Islam Rabbi picked up his first fifer of the NCL as he returned a figure of 5 wickets in 18 overs conceding 64 runs.

Dhaka Metro vs Sylhet

Dhaka Metro got off to the tournament on a high note as they defeated Sylhet by 88 runs on Day 4 at Sylhet Academy Ground, Sylhet.

Defending just 205 runs debutant Arif Ahmed's led to an emphatic win for Shadman Islam’s team as they wrapped up Sylhet to 116 runs in 48 overs.

Arif bagged five wickets at the expense of 43 runs in his 19 overs while Abu Haider Rony took three wickets for Dhaka.

Earlier, skipper Shadman and Naeem Islam’s fifties helped Dhaka to post 243 in reply to that Chattogram scored 251 with Zakir Hasan registering 104 runs.

In the other two matches, Rajshahi was thrashed by Khulna by a huge margin of 400 runs at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Stadium (SKS). Meanwhile, Rajshahi and Dhaka beat Rangpur by 23 runs at the Sher e Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
