According to Cricket Australia's statement on Thursday, International Cricket Council (ICC) have approved the newly-built Perth Stadium to host all international formats. The stadium opened on 13th December and it can hold 60000 people approximately.

The 50,000-seater stadium will now take over hosting duties from the historic WACA ground. The fifth clash of the 5-match ODI series between Australia and England will be the first major sporting event held at the ground. These two teams will face-off each other on 28th January at this venue.

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland reportedly said, "The stadium is a magnificent asset for the state of WA and its sports fan. We very much look forward to bringing this big Australia-England one-day match to Perth to the Stadium on 28 January."

The stadium will also present matches from the domestic Big Bash League, Australian rules football and soccer.

ICC match referee Richie Richardson said, "The new Perth Stadium is a wonderful, refreshing, world class stadium, and I have no hesitation in recommending that the venue is approved for staging all three formats of international cricket,"

The Waca ground hosted the 3rd Ashes Test in December 2017 as its last international match. Australia had won that match by an innings and 41 runs to seal the series as well as to regain the Urn.

The WACA has hosted cricket matches for 120-odd years. It will be turned into a boutique ground with a capacity of 10,000-15,000 by the local board.
