BCCI bans Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf for five years

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned the Pakistani umpire Asad Rouf for 5 years from Indian Premiere League (IPL).   However, not only in IPL but also he has been banned from any cricket related activity regarding India. In the IPL of 2013, Rouf was involved with betting. This was the main reason for banning Rouf.   In 2013 during IPL at Delhi airport, a bag full of gold ornaments and electronics goods were found. Asad’s name and address were written on the bag. It had been found that the bag was a gift for Asad Rouf from a gambler.   The allegations against Rauf came during the sixth edition of India’s hugely popular annual Twenty20 tournament which was dogged by several fixing scandals.   Officials in two of the IPL’s eight franchises were subsequently banned for betting on matches involving their own teams while the former Test player Shanthakumaran Sreesanth was sacked for deliberately bowling badly in exchange for thousands of dollars.   Rauf officiated in 49 Tests, 98 ODIs and 23 Twenty20 internationals before he was struck off the ICC panel.
