Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is ruled out of World Cup with a hairline fracture to his left thumb. He got injured during the match against Australia in which he scored a hundred. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is confirmed as his replacement for this World Cup.
Dhawan got this injury in a bouncer from Pat Cummins while batting in 36 runs. After that blow, he continued his batting, got a hundred and named man of the match.
He travelled to Leeds to meet a surgeon, where the hairline fracture was confirmed. The Indian selectors wanted to take time on the matter following a positive appraisal from the team's medical staff lead by physio Patrick Farhart.
Dhawan, who seen in Southampton today during the Indian training session, did not train at all, and his left hand wrapped in bandage.
After receiving that injury blow against Australia, India team Pant was taken as a cover of Dhawan in England. Pant also trained with India team ahead of Pakistan game, now he is confirmed as a replacement of Dhawan.
