Indian batsman thinks South Africa will be challenging

The Indian team are all set to take on South Africa as their tour of South Africa will start from 5th January onwards. The series will start with a 3-match Test series followed by a 6-match ODI and a 3-match T20I series. India will be looking forward to do something better this time as they have never won a Test series against the Proteas in South Africa.

Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir thinks South Africa will be a tough challenge for India.

"I think it is going to be a big challenge because South Africa is a great side. They are a very good side. They have got a good bowling attack. So, I think it is going to be a good challenge. I am sure the guys will be ready for it. Because you want to challenge yourself against the best in their own conditions," he said reportedly.

The Men in Blue have won nine consecutive Test series under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, including the recent one against Sri Lanka. Gautam thinks that the team have to get used to the conditions quickly in order to gain success in their two-month-long tour.

"I think India will tour South Africa with a lot of confidence because they have done well in last two and a half years. But it is important to get used to the conditions really quickly and try to be mentally tough," said Gambhir.

Gautam Gambhir’s team have qualified for the final in Ranji Trophy. The 36-year-old batsman’s team—Delhi—will face Vidarbha in the final match on 29^th December. Although it is highly unlikely that the left-handed batsman will be recalled in the national team, he does not seem to be concerned about it.

"When you are playing cricket, your primary job is to score runs. It is because you don't get selected on your past performance, but you get monitored on your current performance. And the day people start selecting you based on your past performances, then I think it would be the time to leave.

"Ultimately, you are as good as the performance you displayed in your last innings. This keeps on motivating me," Gambhir elucidated.

"I have never thought about selection. I would not think about it in future as well. Selection is not in our hand. You have only one thing in hand to perform and score runs. And if you are scoring runs, you feel really satisfied," he added.
