Bangladesh finished the opening day of their one-off Test against Afghanistan at 317 for eight in Abu Dhabi on Friday, recovering from a middle-order collapse through a half-century from Litton Das and useful contributions from the lower order.
Playing their first-ever Test at a neutral venue, Bangladesh made a flying start after winning the toss and electing to bat. Openers Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam put together 124 runs for the first wicket before Afghanistan fought back.
Tanzid was the more aggressive of the two, scoring 83 off just 71 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Shadman, meanwhile, contributed 67 off 111 deliveries, hitting seven boundaries.
Mominul Haque added 39, but Bangladesh lost Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 29 in quick succession, slipping to 225 for five after being comfortably placed at 221 for three.
Litton then steadied the innings with a patient 53 off 89 balls, helping Bangladesh cross the 300-run mark. Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 24 before falling to Ismat Alam, while Nayeem Hasan remained unbeaten on 11 and Taijul Islam was not out on four at stumps.
Mohammad Saleem was Afghanistan's most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 70 runs. Yamin Ahmadzai took two wickets, while Ismat Alam also finished with two for 20 from 12.4 overs.
Bangladesh will resume their first innings on the second day at 317 for eight, with Nayeem and Taijul at the crease and Ebadot Hossain still to bat.
