Soumya Sarkar made the most of his opportunity in Bangladesh’s two-day practice match against the UAE, scoring a half-century after spending recent matches with the squad without making the playing XI.

Opening alongside Shadman Islam in place of regular opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumya struck 57 as Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 on the opening day at the Dubai International Stadium.

Bangladesh made a solid start, with Soumya and Shadman putting together 108 runs for the opening wicket.

The visitors went into the first interval without losing a wicket, scoring 90 runs in the opening session.

Soumya brought up his half-century and looked comfortable alongside Shadman, who contributed 46 from 95 balls before their partnership was broken.

Shadman was dismissed after the pair had added 108 runs, while Soumya later retired out.

The left-hander made 57 off 92 deliveries, hitting six fours and a six.

Bangladesh then lost their way after the opening stand. Mominul Haque tried to anchor the innings from No. 3, but received little support from Mushfiqur Rahim and Jaker Ali. Mushfiq scored four before Jaker departed for eight.

Mominul battled for 63 balls to make 33 before he was dismissed, while captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was out for eight before the end of the second session.

Bangladesh lost six wickets for 74 runs during the second session and were eventually bowled out for 234. Nayeem Hasan added 36 in the lower order, while Taijul Islam scored 16.

For the UAE, Junaid claimed three wickets, while Usaid and Haider Ali picked up two apiece.

The hosts also lost an early wicket after beginning their first innings. Lukman was dismissed for 11 off 17 balls by Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed, leaving the UAE at 24 for one.
