Tanzid brought up his hundred from 188 balls, striking eight fours and a six, as Bangladesh moved to 230/2 after 64 overs, taking a 32-run lead over Australia’s first-innings 198.
He was unbeaten on 100, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also completed his half-century, reaching 50 off 74 balls.
The pair have continued Bangladesh’s dominant batting effort after Mominul Haque was dismissed for 49 earlier in the day. Their partnership has now put Bangladesh firmly in control of the first Test.
Resuming on 96/1, Bangladesh lost Mominul Haque for 49, caught behind off Josh Hazlewood, but otherwise dominated the morning session.
Mominul and Tanzid had earlier added 102 runs for the second wicket before Hazlewood broke the stand at 138.
