Bangladesh pace bowling coach Shaun Tait has compared Nahid Rana to legendary Waqar Younis following his impressive spell in the second ODI against New Zealand.

Rana dismantled the Kiwi batting lineup with a mix of pace, bounce, and swing early on, before finishing the innings with pinpoint yorkers to clean up the tail.

His performance reminded Tait of Waqar’s trademark ability to combine new-ball movement with deadly reverse swing and yorkers at the death.

Speaking ahead of the third ODI in Chattogram, Tait said, “This series, what I really enjoyed was Nahid’s yorkers in the last match. It reminded me a lot of Waqar Younis’ days. Fast bowlers taking wickets early and then finishing with yorkers to the tail, I love that.”

Rana’s pace has also drawn parallels with Tait’s own playing days. The 23-year-old consistently clocked over 140 km/h in the second ODI, including 19 deliveries above 145 km/h, showcasing both speed and endurance in challenging conditions.

Tait praised Rana’s fitness and athleticism, noting key differences between them.

“We are similar in some ways, but he is much fitter. He’s a great athlete, strong and lean, which makes it easier for him to bowl fast consistently, even in these conditions,” he added.
