Bangladesh pace star Mustafizur Rahman marked his return to the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) in style, producing a match-winning spell to guide Abahani Limited to victory over Legends of Rupganj.

The left-arm pacer, widely known as the "Cutter Master," claimed four wickets for just 30 runs, dismantling Rupganj's lower order and playing a decisive role in Abahani's triumph.

Despite a brilliant century from Irfan Shukkur and a fighting half-century from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rupganj were unable to prevent defeat.

After being sent in to bat, Legends of Rupganj endured a shaky start. Mustafizur struck early in the fifth over, trapping star batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy lbw. With Rupganj reduced to 39 for 3, Litton Das and Irfan Shukkur steadied the innings with a crucial partnership.

Litton contributed 43 runs before departing, while wicketkeeper-batter Shukkur anchored the innings with a superb century. Batting at No. 5, Mehidy Hasan Miraz joined Shukkur in a 147-run stand that laid the foundation for a competitive total.

Miraz scored 72 off 70 deliveries, while Shukkur smashed 119 from 99 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes.

However, Mustafizur returned to wreak havoc in the closing stages, removing Samiun Basir, Nasum Ahmed and Abdul Halim in quick succession. Rupganj were eventually bowled out for 275 in 48.4 overs.

Mustafizur finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 30 from 9.4 overs at an economy rate of just 3.10.

In reply, Abahani adopted an aggressive approach from the outset. Opener Najmul Hossain Shanto provided early momentum with a quick-fire 30 off 23 balls, while captain Mosaddek Hossain struck 26 runs from only 12 deliveries, including four sixes.

Rupganj captain Sheikh Mahedi Hasan kept his side in the contest with figures of 3 for 30, applying pressure on Abahani's middle order. However, wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali held one end firm and guided the chase with an unbeaten 33 off 30 balls, featuring two fours and two sixes.

Late contributions from Rakibul Hasan, who remained unbeaten on 14 from eight deliveries, helped Abahani secure victory and strengthen their position in the league standings.

The win moved Abahani to second place in the DPL table with 14 points from nine matches. Leaders Mohammedan Sporting Club remain two points ahead, with three rounds of the league still to be played.
