In a statement released on Tuesday, the BCB confirmed that Sharfuddoula's central contract as a BCB umpire expired in December 2025 and was subsequently extended until April 2026.
The board decided not to renew the agreement beyond that period, citing his increasing responsibilities as an ICC Elite Panel umpire, which could limit his availability for domestic duties.
According to the BCB, the decision was made considering the demands of international officiating, and Sharfuddoula's contract with the board officially ended in April 2026.
The board also noted that it is not common practice among ICC Full Member nations to keep Elite Panel umpires on central contracts due to the challenges of balancing international assignments with domestic scheduling.
Despite the expiry of his contract, the BCB said Sharfuddoula remains available for appointments in bilateral international matches as well as domestic First-Class, List A and T20 competitions, subject to his availability.
The board added that after his contract concluded in April, Sharfuddoula was appointed by the BCB to officiate in the T20I series between Bangladesh and Australia in June 2026 under the same appointment-based arrangement.
