In April of this year, Pakistan’s former leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed took on the role of Bangladesh's spin bowling coach ahead of the Zimbabwe series as his contract was till T20 World Cup. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) set to extend his tenure with the Bangladesh team.

BCB has expressed satisfaction with Mushfiqur's work over the past two months. This means Mushtaq will continue to work with players like Rishad Hossain and other spinners.

BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon confirmed the renewal during a media interaction in Mirpur after a board meeting.

"We are ready to renew Mushtaq’s contract." However, Papon also mentioned that they are exploring new alternatives in various sectors. "We are looking for new alternatives in every sector. Let’s see what options we have," he added.

Under the second term of Chandika Hathurusingha, Bangladesh did not perform as expected in the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. However, in the latest T20 World Cup, Najmul Hossain Shanto's team made history by winning three matches and reaching the Super Eight stage. Statistically, it was a successful T20 World Cup for the Tigers.

Despite this, there has been criticism directed at Bangladesh for failing to reach the semifinals, particularly for losing hope quickly in the match against Afghanistan. This has led to calls from many supporters for Hathurusingha’s resignation. However, the BCB does not seem to be considering this option at the moment.

The Champions Trophy, a 50-over tournament, will be held in Pakistan in February 2025. Hathurusingha will remain Bangladesh’s head coach until then. Papon mentioned, "We think Hathurusingha’s contract is until February."
