Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto issued an apology on behalf of his team after their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup concluded with a defeat against Afghanistan in St. Vincent today.

The Tigers finished the Super Eight stage without a win, having lost to Australia, India, and Afghanistan. In the first round, they secured victories against Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Nepal but suffered a defeat to South Africa.

Despite this, with three wins out of seven games, this tournament marked Bangladesh's most successful T20 World Cup performance to date. However, the team fell short of reaching the semifinals, and consistent batting struggles plagued their campaign. In light of these shortcomings, the Bangladesh skipper expressed his apologies to the fans.

"About our entire run in the World Cup, I would say that as a team we have disappointed our fans. We have let down the people who always follow our matches. So, on behalf of my team, I apologise," Shanto said after the match against Afghanistan.

"As a batting group, we weren't able to deliver. We feel sorry for that. In future, we will try to come out of it," he added.
