Khulna Tigers’ pacer Wayne Parnell has praised his teammate Afif Hossain for his outstanding performance against Durdanto Dhaka, describing him as one of the “most talented” batsmen in Bangladesh.
Afif top-scored smashing a 21-ball 43 featuring two fours and four maximums steering the side to beat Dhaka by five wickets in the recent encounter.
The South African fast-bowler Parnell highlighted Afif's ability to play all over the ground and he emphasized the importance of giving Afif the confidence to continue performing well.
“Brilliant innings. Afif is one of the most talented batsmen in Bangladesh. He can play any fast…spin bowling. Playing around the field. Very smart lad. He has to be consistent. You have to give him the confidence to do well and use it properly. All the shots he wanted to play today worked. It feels so good,” said Parnell.
Parnell further said that the left-handed batter should be allowed to play his natural game without too much coaching interference and he urged BCB to support the player in achieving his goals.
“He's a stroke player. If you play differently, you might lose your strength. Coaching is detrimental to some players. They should be allowed to play the natural game. When I came to play for Sylhet Sixers in 2018, he looked special. He played for Bangladesh. There will be ups and downs, very normal," he said.
"Bangladesh cricket and his own goal should be to maintain consistency. But it needs support. If you get support, you will get confidence and be more consistent,” he added.
