Defending champions Comilla Victorians couldn't set a challenging score with the bat in the opener of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) against Durdanto Dhaka on Friday. However, the match took an intense turn with the outstanding bowling performances of Comilla.
Shoriful Islam’s hat-trick and Mohammad Naim’s fifty helped down the defending champions Comilla by five wickets.
After the match on Friday (July 19), Comilla's captain Litton Das acknowledged the defeat as 'lucky' for them. Litton's sentiments have come from coach Salahuddin, he expressed, "I discussed this with the coach that if we lose the first match like this, it might be lucky for the coach."
In the previous season, Comilla faced three consecutive defeats but eventually clinched the championship title by winning 11 matches. Considering that, Litton sees the loss as 'lucky' this time.
Shoriful picked up three in three, giving away 27 runs from his four overs to help restrict Comilla to 143 for six, while Naim scored a 40-ball 52 featuring three fours and as many sixes to help Dhaka chase down the target with three balls to spare.
"Every loss is painful. I am captaining for the first time, and I wanted to win the first match. On this side, it will undoubtedly feel bad to lose the first match as the captain." Litton added.
