Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was proud of the young side under Najmul Hossain Shanto’s leadership and lauded their “no fear” attitude.
Hathurusingha believes a lot has to be taken from this tour as the Tigers managed to secure a win in the ODI and T20I match against the Kiwis for the first time in New Zealand.
On top of that, Bangladesh also finished the T20I series as a draw 1-1 as the visitors won the opening match by 5 wickets, which was their first win in New Zealand in the shortest format of the game,
Followed by the second match being washed out due to rain and the third match was won by New Zealand by 17 runs (DLS).
“I thought the attitude of players this young group had no fear. They wanted to compete in the middle. And the other thing I thought, leadership of Shanto, outstanding,” said Hathurusingha in the post-match conference.
“He was tactically spot on and very clear with the messages with the players, what they expect, what he expect from them. And I thought we did the basic longer than before in terms of adapting to the conditions,” he said.
The head coach also acknowledged the tour was a successful one for Bangladesh cricket.
“As you said, the beginning of the series, we spoke about what we have done before and we want to do better than that. So in that, sense I think this was a very successful tour,” he added.
