Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector Habibul Bashar stated veteran Mahmudullah Riyad is still in their T20 plan as he has not announced his retirement from the format yet.
Mahmudullah who retired from the red-ball cricket is still serving the national cricket team in the other two formats. However, there were many speculations regarding the player's retirement after the World Cup 2023.
The all-rounder made a surprise return to the World Cup squad after being sidelined from a couple of series. He was ruled out of the New Zealand series due to a shoulder injury.
Mahmudullah suffered the injury during the last match of the World Cup when he dived to save himself from a runout.
“Riyad has not retired from the T20 format. As he did not retire he will be obviously in the team setup. He is playing white-ball cricket.. In the ODI format. Whether he will play in the T20 format or not we can confirm it later,” said Bashar.
Bashar was delighted with Bangladesh’s performance in the New Zealand series and said to give more importance to the short format ahead of BPL.
“I hope to get some new players in the upcoming BPL. We were behind in the T20 format. But now we have started performing in T20. See we also beat T20 champions England in the series. We also did well in New Zealand this time. Hoping to play better in the future,” he added.
