Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan has hit out at Herschelle Gibbs’ claim of having poor understanding of Bangladesh players over English language, stating that though English is not their mother language but everybody understands it as well.
Nayeem played the last special edition of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Sylhet Thunders while Gibbs was the head coach of the Sylhet Thunder team.
During the practice session of the Thunders at the Sylhet District Stadium, Gibbs alleged to the media that Bangladesh local players do not have enough command over understanding of English language which is very frustrating for him as well.

“English is not our mother tongue. So, some of us might face difficulty in understanding it,” Nayeem Hasan said.
“But this does not mean that nobody understands English. Some of us might not understand or speak English that well, but everybody is not the same,” Nayeem told one of the country’s leading web portals.
“He can’t judge the whole team by one single player. It’s unfortunate from such a guy like Gibbs,” he added.
The lanky off-spinner said that the coach could have taken the help of the team’s other senior members if he doesn’t understand his words or give any message to him.
“If someone did not understand and I did, he (Gibbs) could have asked me to help. If I don’t understand he could have then called Saikat (Mosaddek Hossain) bhai and help me understand. If only one player in the team understood what Gibbs said, he could have called that player to help the others,” he claimed.
“If you want the others to understand, you can always find a way. I don’t want to talk about this matter further,” he added.
