Former Sri Lanka coach, Tom Moody, believes that the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League can have the same impact as the Indian Premier League when it comes to honing players for the nation. The IPL has been a breeding ground for India, unearthing talents such as Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja and Tom Moody believes that BPL can have the same effect as its Indian counterpart.

In an interview to Cricbuzz, Moody said: “There is no doubt that it [BPL] can have same impact elsewhere.

“The IPL has been a great breeding ground to develop domestic players in India and I think BPL can turn out to be the same for Bangladesh,” he added.

Moody also stated the importance of learning from experienced foreign players as the intensity of the more established stars could rub off on the youngsters in a proper way.

“Learning from foreign coaches and learning from foreign players and also the international Bangladeshi players playing in the tournament can be a great experience for all the emerging players. Looking at the work ethics and the way elite players train. With the intensity that it's been done, it only spreads positivity in the grass roots of the game.”

In the same interview, Moody also emphasized on the importance of having the right balance in the squad: a perfect amalgamation between youth and experience.

“There are number of factors involved. Obviously, you have got to be blessed with a squad that possesses good balance and also some quality experience players. The important thing lies in creating a positive environment because that plays a big impact in developing the team to grow.”

In a more candid turn of events, the former Australian cricketer added that he misses coaching an international team “to an extent”, but is “fortunate to have some good cricket coaching opportunities around the world.”

The legendry Australian currently coaches Rangpur Riders in the BPL and believes that “The powerplay is a significant aspect of the tournament, but I would not say it is the most important.”

He also added, “There are many elements to having a successful T20 side like having a bowling attack that has got wicket-taking potential backed by fielding unit that is aggressive and competitive”

The 52-year-old concluded the interview claiming that while fast bowlers are important, adaptation is the key to outwit the batsmen.

“There is certainly a place for pace bowling and there is no question about that,” Moody stated, “but you need to continually evolve as a bowler whether you are bowling spin or pace to stay ahead of the curve.”

It should be noted that, Rangpur Riders are currently on 4th position and need just another win to seal their place in the top 4.
