As the two teams gear up for another series starting Sunday at St. Kitts, the pre-series buzz revolves around their head-to-head stats. Despite acknowledging Bangladesh’s strength, West Indies captain Shai Hope has expressed his ambition to secure a 3-0 series victory.
Speaking to Cricfrenzy, Hope said, “I can’t predict results now. We know cricket is a game of moments, and anyone can perform well on a given day to win. Everyone wants to win, and we aim to win all three matches. Bangladesh will be aiming for the same. It’s going to be a tough contest where no one gives an inch. From our end, we need to execute our plans and focus on our game.”
The pitch at St. Kitts is known to be conducive to scoring runs, but Hope emphasized the need for realistic expectations. He believes the West Indies can restrict Bangladesh to manageable totals.
“We hope to bowl first, but we won’t let them score 350. We know the history of this venue. It doesn’t always yield 350; it can be a 225-run wicket too. We’ll adapt to the conditions and try to play accordingly,” Hope added.
Bangladesh currently holds the ninth spot in the ICC ODI rankings with 85 points, while the West Indies trail in tenth place with 73 points. The rankings gap adds extra motivation for the Caribbean side to outplay their higher-ranked opponents.
“I can’t speak for Bangladesh or their confidence. We’re focused on maintaining our momentum and playing confidently. They’re ranked above us and have played good cricket over the years. Beating them requires our best performance.” Hope remarked.
The last time these two teams faced off in a series, Bangladesh completed a clean sweep over the West Indies nearly two and a half years ago. Now, with the series set to begin, the Windies are determined to turn the tables and seek redemption.
