Shakib's all-round performance & more – 5 moments of the Ban-Zim match

The 5th match of the tri-nation series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe was a must-win situation for the rather ‘unfancied’ Zimbabwe to reach the final without further calculations. Their opponents – Bangladesh, on the other hand, had already ensured the final before the encounter on Tuesday.
However, Bangladesh showed that they have no room for complacency by handing a 91-run defeat to Zimbabwe. Although they could not score enough runs and managed to register only a total of 216 runs losing 9 wickets, their bowling unit worked magnificently to make that total look huge and got Zimbabwe all-out at 125 runs.
Here are the 5 moments of the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe match:
#1 Tamim-Shakib stitch a big stand
Except for this partnership in the beginning, nothing went the Tigers’ way as Bangladesh ended up with a mediocre total of 216 runs. Shakib and Tamim built a 2nd wicket partnership of 106 runs.
After Anamul was trapped lbw by Kyle Jarvis scoring 1 run, Shakib Al Hasan came on to the pitch. He has been shifted to bat at no. 3 in ODIs at the start of this tri-nation series.
After scoring 37 and 67, respectively in his last two matches, Shakib picked up another half-century in today’s match and made 51 runs before getting dismissed by Raza. Tamim played an innings of 76 runs and overcame the milestone of 6000 ODI career runs.
#2 Zimbabwe leads Bangladeshi middle-order collapse

After getting the early wicket of Anamul Haque Bijoy, Zimbabwe had to wait for 106 more runs to take another wicket. However, Shakib was the second scalp by the Zimbabweans. He made 51 runs before returning to the pavilion.
After that dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim came on to bat and could not manage to make more than 18 runs before Cremer got him out. Including his wicket, Bangladesh lost 7 wickets while posting only 49 runs.
Zimbabwean bowlers did not let the likes of Mahmudullah, Sabbir, Nasir and Mahsrafe to reach the double-digit of runs and Kyle Jarvis alongside Graeme Cremer played a vital role in leading the collapse in Bangladeshi batting. Jarvis took a total of 3 wickets while Cremer got 4.
#3 Mortaza gives the breakthrough
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bowled beautifully on his way to becoming the most successful ODI captain of Bangladesh in terms of wins. He scalped the first wicket of Zimbabwe to offer his team a breakthrough.
He deceived Hamilton Masakadza in edging the ball that was swinging away and Sabbir Rahman at the slip made no mistake in grabbing the ball.
Mash then took another wicket after Shakib hit Zimbabwe twice. This time Craig Ervine fell victim to Mashrafe’s delivery and sent the ball at the slips to Sabbir Rahman again by edging it.
#4 Shakib’s brace
Shakib has taken his third consecutive brace in the tri-series and missed a hat-trick this time as well. In the last two balls of the 7th over of the 2nd innings, he bagged the wickets of Solomon Mire and Brendan Taylor.
Mire was out bowled by the all-rounder, while Taylor was trapped plumb in the following delivery. With these two big setbacks, Zimbabwe became 3 down scoring 20 runs.
#5 Sunzamul takes two in two
Sunzamul replaced Mohammad Saifuddin for Zimbabweans’ weakness against left-arm spin. Sunzamul proved the decision of including him in the playing XI by taking back to back wickets in the 23rd over.
Peter Moor was the first one who fell prey to the spinner. He was trapped lbw, while the next batsman got out in the same fashion.
