Former Pakistan pace bowler Aaqib Javed has alleged that Saleem Pervez was responsible for orchestrating several match-fixing incidents during his playing days by introducing players to the bookies.

Javed admitted that he was also approached by Pervez to fix games while playing for Pakistan but he refused to do so and instead raised his voice against the corruption taking place in Pakistan cricket.

Aaqib Javed’s international career was cut short when he was just 25. The former Pakistan pacer claims he was never allowed to make a comeback in the national side for not accepting a bribe to fix matches. Pervez, who passed away in 2013, had himself admitted that he used to make players meet with bookies in the 90s.

Javed has now revealed that players were offered millions of dollars and luxury cars to fix matches. Those who denied were threatened for their respective careers.

“Lavish cars and millions of rupees were handed over to cricketers. I was also asked to fix matches and was told that if I did not comply, my career would be finished,” said Aaqib Javed, who played 22 Tests and 162 ODIs in his international career, picking up 54 and 182 wickets respectively.

“Players were approached with match-fixing offers through a former cricketer named Saleem Pervez,” Aaqib told a local Pakistan news channel earlier this week.

Javed revealed he was also approached by Pervez to fix games but he did not accept his offers as it was against his principles to cheat his own country. Pervez had himself admitted during an investigation that he played middleman between players and bookies in the 90s.

“When I came to know about fixing, I took a strong stance and stood by it. I don’t regret the fact that it shortened my career as I strongly believe in my values. People tried to sideline me from tours because of my stance and would also reprimand those people who would talk to me,” said Javed.
