ICC denies reports about postponing T20 WC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) denied reports about postponing the seventh edition of the Twenty20 World Cup.
Rather they said that they are continuing their preparations for the global event, which is scheduled to be held in Australia in October this year as planned.
Earlier, media reports in India said that the ICC members had come to an understanding that the T20 World Cup will be halted back until 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The ICC has called an emergency online meeting on Thursday to discuss several issues related to the global pandemic. Along with that, they will also discuss the fate of the World Cup, which is scheduled to play Down Under in between October 18 to November 15.
“The ICC has not taken a decision to postpone the T20 World Cup and preparations are ongoing for the event in Australia this year as per plan,” a spokesman for the governing body said.
“This is on the agenda for the ICC Board meeting tomorrow and a decision will be taken in due course,” he told Reuters.
Despite the most successful nations in containing the spread of the coronavirus Australia still have to be under a travel ban where several state and territory borders are still closed.
A spokeswoman from Cricket Australia (CA) said that she wasn’t aware of any decision being taken to postpone the T20 World Cup.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI], is keeping a close eye on developments as a postponement could open up a window for this year’s Indian Premier League [IPL].
The largely popular T20 franchise-based tournament, which was scheduled to start at the end of March, had to face the postponement for an indefinite period due to the pandemic and the BCCI could see a $530 million fall in revenue if it fails to find another window for the competition.
Australia pacer Pat Cummins told reporters on Wednesday that the IPL would be great for everyone if the World Cup gets postponed.
“You have millions and millions around the world watching that format and I’m sure this year could potentially be even more after a long break off cricket,” Cummins said.
