Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said on Saturday that everyone should be behind Mashrafee bin Mortaza during his career’s last phase.
In a press conference that lasted for 18-minutes and 44 seconds on Saturday (February 29), a major chunk of the questions directed at Mashrafe Mortaza was about his retirement. The retirement talks have been chasing the ODI captain since his disappointing returns in the 2019 World Cup, where he bagged a lone wicket. And while a sombre Mortaza turned up to front the press ahead of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, the mood soon changed when questions were raised about "self respect".
"Do I steal on the field. Am I a thief?" Mortaza hit back at a journalist who questioned if his ego was dented through all the recent talks about retirement. "I just cannot make out what is the relation between self-respect or embarrassment in a game of cricket. So many offences are committed around - like stealing and corruption - and they don't have shame and if I don't get wickets on the field, that would make me feel embarrassed? Am I a thief?,'' he retorted angrily.

Mashrafee even insisted that he is available for the Pakistan tour if he is selected though nothing official came from the BCB front until their president Nazmul came up with their version in this regard.
Yes he [Mashrafee on availability on Pakistan tour that comprise with one ODI and one Test] was supposed to say that and he said exactly that,’’ said Nazmul.
We will request one thing that we don’t have any placement for Shakib as a cricketer and Mashrafe as captain we don’t have any placement,’’ he said.
‘’There is no way to undervalue his contribution. We are trying our best to give the opportunity,’’ he said
‘’What I think about the press conference after watching it that you guys were pocking him, pressuring him, the time where you have to support him, you guys are giving him pain a little bit more. I think we shouldn't discuss about it, he said what he want. Who will be the captain the board will decide. He (Mashrafe) will decide when he wants to retire,’’ he said.
‘’Who will be the captain, that board will decide. It can be anyone. And when he will retire, that depends on him,’’ he added.
