West Indian opener Chris Gayle’s decision to postpone his retirement to play a Test will send a wrong message to the youngsters, said legendary pace bowler Curtly Ambrose.

Gayle declared his retirement before the World Cup in February but just ahead of the India match in the World cup he said that he has no intention of retiring after the World Cup.

The explosive opener stated that he wants to play a Test against India as well as also participate in the ODI series against them, provided he is selected.

"If Chris Gayle wants to play an ODI series or a T20 series, well, that's not a problem. In terms of Test matches for me is a no-no," Ambrose was quoted in PTI recently.

"Gayle hasn't played Test matches for five years. There you go... Bringing him back for one Test, I think, is a backward step. What kind of message are you sending to the younger players? ODIs and T20s are not a problem as he still is a destructive player but Test matches, no, definitely not," he said, who picked 405 wickets in 98 Test matches.

Gayle is now almost 40 years old while he played his last Test against Bangladesh in September, 2014.

Gayle was also irregular in ODI’s cricket as well considering he due to commitment in several franchise based cricket.

He remained his former self in the on scoring 200 runs in seven matches with 33.33 averages that was not good enough for his country in the showpiece event as they are eliminated from the semi-final.
