Bangladesh announce squad for Women's T20 World Cup

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup, starting from October 3 in UAE.

Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the 15-member team which comprises several left and right-hand as well as off-break and leg-break spinners.

Nahida Akter, Shorna Akter, Rabeya, Sultana Khatun and Fahima Khatun form the backbone of spin bowling in the squad.

On the other hand, youngster Marufa Akter, Jahanara Alam, Mst. Ritu Moni and Sobhana Mostary are expected to shoulder the pace responsibilities.

Rumana Ahmed, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Ishma Tanjim, Sabikun Nahar Jesmin and Shorifa Khatun, who were part of the Asia Cup touring party in Sri Lanka, were unable to retain their spot on the team.

Bangladesh will compete in Group B of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 along with England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. While Group A includes six-time champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka

The Tigresses had their best performance in the Women's T20 World Cup in 2014, securing victories against Ireland and Sri Lanka.

Their first match at this year’s event will be the tournament opener against Scotland in Sharjah on 3 October. Followed that they will cross sword against West Indies on October 5.

The Tigresses will face West Indies on October 11 in Sharjah before they play their last Group B match against South Africa on October 13.

The tournament was initially scheduled to be held in Bangladesh but due to the political unrest within the country after the student-people Anti-government protests and travel advisories of a few participating nations forced the tournament out of the country to UAE.
