Bangladesh cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus has confirmed Mahmudullah Riyad as the 'automatic choice' for the upcoming T20I World Cup following his impressive performance in the BPL.
Speaking on the matter, the chairman stated, "What can I say? Brilliant performance by Riyad. You must notice oe thing, his strike rate in the T20 World Cup, which was fantastic. At that strike rate, he is automatically chosen for T20. And now it is proven. Wherever he is playing, he is an automatic choice," said Yunus.
The experienced batter's place in the team was strongly advocated by Yunus, who emphasized, "At this moment, whether he will get a chance or not, this question does not arise. He is playing well, and performing well. I think his name is in the team already. There is no room for second thoughts," he said.
Yunus drew the example of James Anderson how the English bowler is still performing, and dismissed concerns about age.
Yunus drew an example of James Anderson to dismiss concerns about age and highlight how the English bowler is still performing.
"Age does not matter. What matters is how fit he is. Anderson is still bowling at the age of 41. If a player keeps himself fit, he can continue his game. If he performs, then there is no problem in keeping him on the team. He is performing. Active in bowling, and fielding. So why not?"
