Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been hunting for an ideal assistant coach for Men's national team since the reappointment of Chandika Hathurusingha. BCB Cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus cleared that there is a 'slim chance' for former coach Sridharan Sriram to take up the role.

Sriram worked as a technical consultant during the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup and tri-nation series last year. Yunus stated that the coach will be busy in IPL and won't be available as a full-time coach due to tight schedule.

"I don't feel he [Sriram] is available and won't be able to join since he has IPL assignment and it will be difficult for him to skip it and join us full time. He isn't interested in BCB's terms. So chances are very slim," Jalal told the media.

Jalal announced that the future assistant coach would be more focused on batting and the Tigers might have to play the upcoming England series without an assistant coach. He also informed that Khaled Mahmud will be back for the England series as a director of the team.

"The assistant coach will be batting-centric but the chances of getting an assistant coach before the England series are very small," he said.

According to ICC's FTP schedule, Bangladesh will play three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is against Ireland in May. But, there are uncertainties about the T20I series which is setto be played in Chelmsford, England.

"Ireland could not confirm the venue. So the T20I series may not take place but the ODIs will be played in England," he said.

Jalal also stated that BCB are keen on using local coaches such as Aftab Ahmed and Rajin Saleh during the A team's assignment.

"There is little chance of local coaches being appointed in the national team as assistant coach. We are happy with Rajin and Aftab. They can work in the A team since there is a matter of improvement," he added.
