Players' union calls for reform of 'chaotic' global cricket calendar
27 Mar 25Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 Governing Council has revealed the owners of the seven franchises for the upcoming three editions of BPL.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) received about nine applications to acquire a franchise in the BPL. Shakib al Hasan's Monarch Mart also approached BCB for a slot.
The eighth and last edition of the BPL was held with six franchises in January-February this year. Comilla Victorians won the title, for a third time, beating Fortune Barishal in the final.
The Comilla Victorians' owners plan to be present when their club defends the BPL title next year.
There were allegations last month that Comilla Legends Ltd had failed to file Expressions of Interest (EOI) papers, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) declared on Sunday that the Victorians will remain in the BPL till 2025.
One of the seven franchises has a new owner: Future Sports Bangladesh Ltd has taken over the Sylhet squad. A high-profile returnee is the Bashundhara Group, which has repurchased the Rangpur franchise.
Fortune The Barishal team was retained by Barishal Sports Ltd. Khulna Tigers were treated similarly by Mindtree.
Progoti Green Auto Rice Mills Ltd, which controlled Sylhet previous season, has now taken over the Dhaka franchise. After the BCB fired the original owners, Minister Group sponsored the team from the capital in 2022. Delta Sports Ltd kept ownership of the Chattogram franchise.
The ninth edition, with seven franchises, will take place in January-February of next year. In reality, the ICC has provided a window for these seven teams to play in the next three seasons.
