Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Mohan de Silva said that the country was assured of getting a sum of the US $ 6 million had they hosted Asia Cup 2022.
Sri Lanka was originally scheduled to host the tournament but were forced to back out at the last moment due to the ongoing political and economic tensions in the country.

“We tried to host this event in Sri Lanka but most importantly at least we can get 2.5 million US dollars from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) as hosting fare while other revenue share with 2.5 USD million to altogether more than 6 million US dollars for the country at this hard period”, said SLC Secretary as quoted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
“But this was solely because the stakeholders doubts due to the prevailing unrest in the country. Had we hosted it Sri Lanka’s economy would have definitely been boosted centred around a tourism build up and upped the country image,” he said.
The 15th edition of Asia Cup 2022 featuring highly-competitive South Asian nations is set to take place in UAE. The event will kick start with Sri Lanka, the official host of the T20 tournament taking on Afghanistan in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the second match of the tournament will bring an action-packed contest with Team India going up against arch-rival Pakistan on August 28 in Dubai.
