Shakib named Bangladesh Test captain, deputy Litton

Shakib al Hasan has been appointed as the new Test captain of Bangladesh, confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday.
Liton Das will be his deputy from the upcoming West Indies series, which is set to begin on June 16.
Earlier, Mominul Haque resigned as Test captain, following the team's series defeat at home against Sri Lanka 1-0.
Shakib first lead the side as the captain in a game against West Indies in 2009. He captained the team for six more matches in the first half of 2010, and more Test in August 2011 against Zimbabwe, before falling out of favour with the then BCB chief Mustafa Kamal.
Shakib then took over the Test captaincy once again in December 2017, replacing Mushfiqur Rahim. Shakib held the role for nearly two years, till he was handed a one-year ban from all cricket in 2019.
Shakib is the only Bangladeshi player with the double of 4000+ Test runs and 200 wickets. There is no doubt about his experience in the format and his calibre as a Test cricketer.
However, Shakib has not been regular in Tests in the last few years. The left-arm all-rounder has played only five of Bangladesh's last 13 Tests. But Nazmul Hassan said that he'll be available for selection in the West Indies Tests.
"As far as I know, he'll play [in the West Indies]. After the series, there is a series against Zimbabwe. He is doubtful for that series. So, it's difficult to say for how long Shakib will remain the captain of the Test team," he said.
