Bangladesh team director, former Test captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon, said he was proud of his team for giving themselves a chance of victory.
Bangladesh's hopes of pulling off a historic first Test win against South Africa took a major blow when they made a horror start to their second innings at the end of the fourth day of the first Test at Kingsmead on Sunday.
Bangladesh bowled out South Africa for 204 in the second innings, leaving themselves a target of 274 to win. Only six overs were possible before bad light ended play but South African spin bowlers Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer, sharing the new ball, reduced Bangladesh to 11 for three.

"It can happen in cricket," Sujon said of the top-order collapse.

"There is still a possible chance, we have seven batsmen to go. If we bat well and bat long we have a good chance to be in this Test match. Whether we win or lose, I am very excited," said Sujon.
"We have Mushfiqur and Shanto (Najmul Hossain) at the crease. Liton, Yasir and Miraj are left. We know the conditions are spinning. We are not giving up hopes of winning yet," he added.
In six previous Tests in South Africa they have suffered five innings defeats and have never been in contention to beat the hosts.
However, Sujon is upset of the inconsistent umpiring in the ongoing first Test of the series against hosts South Africa in Durban.
“It is frustrating. Umpires have a big role to play in Test matches. A lot depends on a decision. You all have seen the umpiring, there is nothing to hide. Some decision went for us which if we had got early, we would have been chasing 180 or so instead of 270,” said BCB director Mahmud to the media on Sunday.
“We of course respect the umpires. They are the judge of the field and we need to accept their decision. But it is a fact that we have seen such inconsistent umpiring after a very long time,” the former Bangladesh captain added.
