24 Apr 25Rupganj Tigers, who are participating in Dhaka Premier League for the first time have defeated the most successful team of the competition Abahani Ltd. by 7 wickets.
Rupganj have stopped Abahani for 255 runs on the opening day of the domestic tournament in Mirpur. The team that came up from the first division have reached the target by losing 3 wickets with 48 balls in hand. Naim Sheikh's century for Abahani has also faded away against Zakir Hasan's century.
Rupganj got off to a great start in the opening match. Openers Mizanur Rahman and Zakir Hasan got a mammoth partnership of 166 runs. Despite missing Mizanur's century for 7 runs, Zakir managed to pick up the first century in List 'A' cricket.

Mizanur made his 97-run innings with 12 fours and 3 sixes off 82 balls. Wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir got out with 8 runs away from victory. He played 116 runs in 117 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes. The rest of the path was easily crossed by skipper Marshall Ayub (23) and Fazle Mahmud (10).
Earlier, Abahani lost the toss and opened to bat. They lost four wickets for 48 runs. Naim, who was recently dropped from the central contract, rescued the endangered team. Based on his 115-run innings, Abahani has reached 255 runs. This is the fifth century of Naim's List 'A' career.
Among the bowlers of Rupganj, Mukidul Islam took three wickets. Besides, Sharifullah and Farhad Reza took two wickets each.
In other matches, Prime Bank Cricket Club defeated City Club by 50 runs thanks to Anamul Haque Bijoy's 60 off 82 balls, while Legends of Rupganj defeated Gazi Group Cricketers with the help of Naeem Islam's 92.
