Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former South African bowler Allan Donald as the pace bowling coach for the national side.

It was confirmed by the BCB's chairman of the cricket operations committee Jalal Younus to the Cricfrenzy on Friday.

"He has been contracted till the T20I World Cup in Australia," Jalal said.

Bangladesh have been without a pace bowling coach since the New Zealand series after Ottis Gibson did not renew his contract with BCB.

"I’ll also be working closely with Russell Domingo, who I know really really well from my days with the Proteas," he said.

"I know he has been working hard with the Bangladesh team and I am looking forward to working with the Bangladesh fast bowlers. A young talented bunch, there’s no doubt."

An ICC Hall of Famer served as New Zealand's bowling coach at the 2011 World Cup before being drafted by South Africa as a bowling coach to work under Gary Kirsten. After Kirsten resigned in 2013, Russell Domingo was named South Africa's head coach, and Donald worked as a bowling coach under the South African before being replaced by Charl Langeveldt.

From 2011 until 2015, he worked with South Africa. In the IPL, he worked with Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sri Lanka recruited him as an interim bowling coach for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.

Donald was called the 'White Lightning' during his playing days for his blazing pace and aggressive bowling. He grabbed 330 Test wickets over a career that ran 1992-2002. His most recent coaching job was with the ITEC Knights, a South African first-division squad.

Bangladesh will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Tests in South Africa, with the first match slated for March 18. Donald is expected to join the Tigers from South Africa, according to reports.
