Mehidy Hasan Miraz of the Chattogram Challengers has decided to return home leaving the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. Due to his mother's condition, he has already informed the board that he will be departing for Dhaka, which is not the main issue though for leaving.
The decision came just one day after the Challengers management replaced him as captain for the rest of the season with Naeem Islam. Miraz commanded the team for the first four games, before Naeem took over in Saturday's match against Sylhet Sunrisers (January 29).
There also appears to be a misconception about the official position on captain changes. The management insisted on speaking with head coach Paul Nixon regarding Mehidy's dismissal as captain, but the all-rounder claimed he was unaware of the move until a few hours before the game.

"I am leaving for Dhaka today (January 30) maintaining all the protocols. I have informed the BCB CEO and my team that I want to return to Dhaka in the evening as my mother is sick," Miraz said to the media Sunday.
"I was told that I am not captaining hours before the game and it was quite embarrassing. Nixon did not say anything to me that suggested that he didn't want me to be the captain. He looked quite happy with me," he added.
However, Chattogram manager Fahim Muntasir told Cricfrenzy that they had taken the decision to relax Miraz.
“Basically his mother is sick so he wants to go home. Even then we are discussing, let's see what happens. He is our best player, we wanted to keep him free so we gave the captaincy to Naeem,” he said.
Chittagong Challengers chief executive Syed Yasir Alam said, "We want him to stay, we are positive about him."
